Romantic Things to Do in North Wales: A Couples’ List From Coast to Mountains

Romantic things to do in North Wales are rarely about spending money. They are about time, light and a view you will both remember. Living in Llandudno, I am spoilt for choice, so here is my list of favourites from one end of the region to the other.

Watch the Sun Go Down on the Coast

Sunset is the most romantic hour anywhere, and North Wales faces west across the sea. South Stack and Llanddwyn on Anglesey, West Shore in Llandudno and the far tip of the Llŷn all give you a front-row seat. Take a flask and a blanket and stay until the colour fades.

Walk Beside a Mountain Lake

You do not need to climb to feel the mountains. A slow walk around Llyn Padarn in Llanberis, or along the shore at Llyn Ogwen, puts the peaks of Eryri right above you with very little effort.

Wander Through a Castle Town

Conwy, Caernarfon, Beaumaris and Criccieth each have a castle at their heart and plenty of streets to get lost in together. Go late in the day, when the stone turns golden and the crowds thin out.

Look Up at the Stars

Eryri is an International Dark Sky Reserve, so on a clear, moonless night, the stars feel close enough to touch. Find a safe lay-by or lakeside away from the villages, and give your eyes time to adjust.

Head Inland to the North-East

The Clwydian Range has gentle hill walks and wide views, with Moel Famau's tower at the top. Near Llangollen, the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a World Heritage Site, makes for a memorable walk high above the River Dee.

Make It Yours

The most romantic thing is doing something that means something to the two of you. That might be a proposal, an elopement, a sunset vow renewal or a couples shoot. You can choose anywhere, in North Wales or beyond.

A good day here needs only the two of you and a little time. For more places, read love story locations across North Wales and why North Wales for your love story. When one of these spots becomes part of your story, plan your experience with me.
