Taking Your Love Story Abroad: Ibiza and Beyond

Most couples who find me are thinking about North Wales, and it's a wonderful place to tell a love story. But a few have asked a different question: could the experience travel with them? It's a good one, and I'd like to answer it honestly.

I haven't done anything abroad yet, so this isn't a story I've already told. It's an option, and here's what it would look like.

An Ibiza Experience in Outline

If couples want an experience in Ibiza, I'm all up for it. The idea is that we travel around some stunning places in the day, with food, fun and sun, before taking to the beach in the evening for a sunset experience. It's a day experience, so the trip is built around it: you fly out, the experience begins the next day, and the day after that you fly home.

I have a passport, so I'll gladly come with you.

Why mention it at all, when I haven't done it yet? Because I'd rather be open about what's possible than leave you guessing. Some couples have a place abroad that means a lot to them, and I'd like them to know they can ask.

What Stays the Same

Whatever the setting, it's still you two at the centre. You'd still have one person acting as your celebrant and photographer, someone who gets to know your story beforehand and captures the day candidly rather than posing you for hours. If you'd like to see how that works in practice, my post on what's in my camera bag and ceremony folder shows how one person does both.

For the evening itself, I've set out the idea in more detail in my Twilight Ceremonies post on a sunset anniversary in Ibiza.

What Needs Planning

Going abroad adds a few steps. You'd need valid passports, and GOV.UK's guidance on entry requirements for Spain is the place to check the current rules before you book anything. You'd also want to work out flights and where to stay, and we'd talk through the plan together before a date is fixed. It's worth thinking early about the season, because the weather and the time the sun sets both shape the evening. A trip that's right for you is one where nobody is rushing, so we'd leave room for delays, tired legs and the odd change of plan.

One more point: a celebrant-led ceremony like mine is a celebration of your story, and the legal side of a marriage is a separate matter. If you'd like to be legally married overseas, GOV.UK has a guide to getting married abroad that explains what you'll need to do.

Why Ibiza Works for a Sunset

Ibiza is an island with a lot of coastline, and the cover photograph shows its walled old town, Dalt Vila, though there's far more coast beyond it. I haven't worked at any of these places, and the photographs here are inspiration only. What appeals to me is the shape of the trip: a day of exploring, with good food and warm weather, ending on a beach as the sun goes down. It's a gentle, unhurried way to celebrate a love story, and it would suit couples who'd like a bit of adventure alongside their ceremony.

Ibiza and Beyond

Ibiza is just the example here. Your love story could go anywhere that matters to you, whether that's another corner of Wales, somewhere else in the UK or somewhere further away that you've always pictured. If you're not sure where to begin, my guide to love story locations across North Wales is one starting point, and if you live overseas yourselves, there's the post about eloping to North Wales from abroad.

Start With a Conversation

If this idea has caught your imagination, the best first step is a chat, and there's no obligation to turn it into a booking. I'd like to hear what you're picturing, where you've been happiest together and what you'd want the day to feel like. Tell me where you're dreaming of, and we'll work out whether it's possible. You can see how an experience begins on the Plan Your Experience page, or learn more about me.

Some love stories are best told close to home, and others are best told by the sea in the sun.
